9 o'clock sharp 是甚麼意思？
at 9 o'clock sharp
/naɪn əˈklɒk ʃɑːp/
＝ 準時、正（某個鐘數），不早不遲
常見於會議邀請、培訓通知和上司的提醒，意思是「準時開始，不會等人」。sharp 一定放在時間後面。
簡單解釋
把 sharp 想像成刀鋒：刀鋒很窄、很準，沒有空間偏差。
9 o'clock sharp 就是時間「準到刀鋒那麼窄」：九點正開始，不是九點五分，也不是「九點左右」。
要注意詞序：英文說 at 9 sharp 或 at 9 o'clock sharp，sharp 在時間後面，不可以說 sharp 9。

常見錯誤
✗ The meeting starts at sharp 9.
✓ The meeting starts at 9 sharp.
sharp 一定放在時間後面。中文說「九點正」，英文也是「九點 + sharp」，不是 sharp 9。
✗ The meeting starts at 9 o'clock sharp a.m.
✓ The meeting starts at 9 a.m. sharp.
sharp 要放在整個時間最後。用 a.m. / p.m. 時通常不加 o'clock。
✗ Please be in time for 9 sharp.
✓ Please be there at 9 sharp.
in time 是「及時、未太遲」，和 sharp 意思重疊又不搭配。說準時到達，用 be there at 9 sharp 或 be on time。
✗ The meeting starts at 9 o'clock sharp, please don't late.
✓ The meeting starts at 9 o'clock sharp, so please don't be late.
late 是形容詞，不是動詞，要說 don't be late；兩句之間也要用 so 連接。

對上司或客戶說 sharp 會不會太強硬？
在會議邀請裡說 "We'll start at 9 sharp" 很正常，只是說明會準時開始。但對客戶說 "Be here at 9 sharp" 像命令，可以改為 "We'll start promptly at 9, so please arrive a few minutes early."
on time 和 in time 有甚麼分別？
on time 是「準時」，在約定的時間到，例如 The train was on time。in time 是「及時、未太遲」，例如 I got there in time for the presentation.（我趕得及看簡報）。
如果我會遲到，應該怎樣說？
可以說 "I'm running about ten minutes late. Sorry!" 或 "I'm stuck in traffic, I'll be there by 9:15." 最好說出預計到達時間，讓對方決定是否先開始。
