Dictionify ("the extension") is made by FREEOCLOCK LIMITED, a company registered in Hong Kong ("we"). It explains words and passages you select on web pages. This policy says what data it handles and why.
When you ask for an explanation, the selected text, the sentence around it, and the page's title and domain name (for example "example.com", never the full address) are sent through our service to an AI provider (via OpenRouter) to write the answer. For a follow-up card, the word it came from is sent too, and 文 Translate sends the explanation to be translated. We pass it on and don't store it. We only use AI providers that don't keep or train on it; they process it under their own terms. The extension only sends text when you select it or press its shortcut; it doesn't read pages in the background. It never sends text from password or form fields, and it's switched off by default on common sign-in and payment pages (such as Google, Microsoft and Apple sign-in, PayPal and Stripe checkout). You can switch it off on any other site, such as your bank, in Settings.
Your library of saved words, explanations, translations, notes and review progress is stored on your own device. With extension version 1.0.2 and earlier, it stays only there.
From extension version 1.0.3, and in the Dictionify mobile app, word sync keeps a copy of that library on our service while you're signed in, so your words and flashcards are the same on all your devices. The copy holds each word with its explanation, translations, notes, stars, review progress, the sentence it was found in, and the page's title and domain (never the full address). Word sync is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings (Account → Sync my words), which deletes the copy from our service for your account; your words stay on your devices. We use the copy only to sync your words.
dictionify.com uses no cookies, analytics or trackers (our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs). Its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers when you open it.
Pro subscriptions are sold through Stripe Managed Payments (receipts show "Sold through Link"). Stripe acts as the merchant of record and handles your payment details and tax. We store your Stripe customer id, subscription id, subscription status and renewal or end date, never your card number.
We don't sell your data or use it for advertising. We share it only with the services needed to run the extension: Cloudflare (hosting), OpenRouter and the AI providers it routes to (writing answers), Google (sign-in) and Stripe (payments).
Usage counts are kept for up to 90 days, and product statistics for up to 13 months. You can delete your account at any time in the extension's Settings (Account → Delete my account); this cancels any running subscription and removes your email, Google account id, sessions and synced words from our service. When you delete a single word, a small marker with no content is kept for up to a year so your other devices remove it too. What's left can no longer be linked to your email: the statistics, the trial hashes, and the current day's and week's usage counts (numbers only, filed under a one-way hash of your Google account id, so that deleting an account doesn't reset the free limits; they are removed within 90 days). Uninstalling the extension removes the data stored in your browser.
