approach 是甚麼意思？

＝ 處理某事的方法；著手處理、接近
名詞和動詞的介詞剛好相反：名詞要加 to（an approach to the problem），動詞不加 to（approach the problem）。這是香港學生最常犯的錯。
簡單解釋
approach 原本是「走近」：你一步步走向一樣東西。
引申開去，你「走近一個問題」的方式，就是你的 approach，即處理方法、角度。所以 a new approach to teaching 是「一種新的教學方法」。
記住：名詞 + to（my approach to revision），動詞直接接受詞（approach the question carefully）。

常見錯誤
✗ We should approach to this problem carefully.

動詞 approach 直接接受詞，不加 to。
✗ This is a new approach of learning English.
✓ This is a new approach to learning English.
名詞 approach 配 to，不配 of；to 後面接名詞或動名詞（learning），不是原形動詞。
✗ The teacher approached me to tell that my essay was late.
✓ The teacher approached me to tell me that my essay was late.
approach sb 本身正確，但 tell 後面要有人作受詞：tell me that…。
✗ The exam is approaching to us.
✓ The exam is approaching. / The exam is coming up.
表示時間臨近時，approach 不需要受詞，更不加 to us。

- more deep → in more depth：deep 是形容詞，這裡要用 in depth（深入地）；同時補上訪談人數和地點，方法部分會更具體。

常見問題
為甚麼名詞 approach 加 to，動詞卻不加？
名詞 an approach to sth 是「通往某事的路」，所以用 to；動詞 approach 本身已有「走向」的意思，再加 to 就重複了。可以記一對例句：my approach to the problem / I approached the problem。
approach 和 method 有甚麼分別？
approach 是整體思路，例如 a qualitative approach（質性研究取向）；method 是具體做法，例如 interviews、questionnaires。報告中常寫 "We adopted a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews as our main method."
想寫電郵問教授問題，可以說 "I would like to approach you" 嗎？
語法上可以，但有點奇怪。電郵中直接說 "I am writing to ask about…" 或 "Could I ask you about…?" 更自然。approach sb 多用於描述別人的行動，例如 "I approached my professor after the lecture."
approachable 可以形容老師嗎？
可以，而且是常見的讚美，意思是老師友善、容易接觸，學生不怕找他提問，例如 "Our tutor is friendly and approachable."
